Thread: why install a modchip

Hi all,

Thanks to the great tutorials on this site, last night I succesfully installed usb loader GX and I am now playing Ciso's directly off a HDD!!!

THis is awesome.

What I don't understand is this:

Why bother installing a modchip at all? When you can just play games directly from a HDD?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question.

I have a modchip installed and have lots of ISO's on dvd. I did not even realise it was possible to play Wii games directly off a HDD until a few days ago!!!

My point is, why waste time and money burning ISO's to disc? When you can have everything on a hdd?

THis usbloader even allows you to put a dvd in the drive, and it will store the entire game onto your HDD. (Although I did find out last night, that this only works if the disc is in pristine condition).

What do you think guys?

Because modchips existed before USB loading, and I guess people got accustomed to them. Backup launchers are generally better than modchips too, since there's so much more customization and ability to fix problematic games. With modchips, you just expect to burn the game and play it, which doesn't always happen with backups. At least with softmodding you have other options.
