Default Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Announced

Sands of Time storyline continues starting next year.

Ubisoft officially announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which will return to the 'Sands of Time' storyline from the previous trilogy. This new game is set for release alongside the upcoming feature film in May 2010.

Not many details about the title were revealed, however, such possible tie-ins with the film and what platforms it will appear, only saying it's for both consoles and handhelds.

Ubisoft did say players can expect the return of "fan-favorite elements" from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations.

"Our new title will be true to the Prince of Persia roots and should leverage the fantastic impact the movie is going to have on our franchise," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during an investor call this morning. Guillemot also added the game will be targeted at both hardcore and casual audiences.

Ubisoft also dropped some sales numbers during the call. The revamped, cell-shaded Prince of Persia title from 2008 moved 2.5 million copies worldwide, and when combined with the 'Sands of Time' series, sales reached upwards of 14 million units total.

Well! I've played all the previous parts and enjoyed them very much. Hope The Forgotten Sands would be a great addition.

Looks like this series of games might be worth looking into… I mean, the previous games do seem really popular. How many games are there in this series up until now?

Well, I finished all the games of this series too and I can assure you that it's one of the greatest action games(based on my opinion). Game is pretty unique in it's genre - that's why people love it.
    Still in love with WC3.

The game is a return to the Sands of Time storyline from the last generation of consoles. It's probably no coincidence that the Jake Gyllenhaal film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is due out in May as well. What's interesting is that it means they're temporarily shelving the reboot storyline introduced in last year's game.

I had no idea there was a movie coming out based on these games too, that’s really cool. So it was a game first and then developed into a movie? Nice!
