Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines
Story 9/10
Altair is in Cyprus, with a Mission to Traget the remaining Knights Templar. Returning character Maria who you might remember as the disguised Templar Altair fought near the end of the Original Assassin's Creed. Maria returns & is one of the main characters in Bloodlines.
Altair Starts Bloodlines as a Full Assassin and doesn't need to earn back any abilities or powers as was required in the original.
Bloodlines takes place right after the First game ends, however it takes place centuries before Assassin's Creed II to is set to begin. Altair and Maria don't make an appearance in Assassin’s Creed II. It's most likely the Characters will be evolved. Possibly controlling a descendant of Altair.
Same as with the original, the Story is going to be a Love it or Hate it situation. I personally Like it, and find the whole Story very interesting.
Grafix 9.5/10
The grafix are incredibly done, the world feels right out of the Assassin’s Creed original, it’s open and Free roaming. Of course it is downscaled, has much fewer details and objects; however that’s to be expected. What’s not expected is how well they did making these worlds feel so familiar. You can almost forget this is the PSP edition, getting lost in the game and its incredible likeness to the Big Boy Console original. Even having some advanced features the original didn’t have.
The Big Boy Consoles do show off their power when you look at the huge crowds they are able to render, understandably the PSP edition can’t draw the same crowd, but it does enough and the Enemy AI is pretty dynamic.
Cut Scenes
The Cut Scenes are beautifully done, a great display of the visual quality that is possible on the PSP system. Its no doubt they took the abilities of the system to the max. They feel right at home in the Assassin’s Creed Story.
Controls 10/10
The controls are right out of the original Assassin’s Creed, so if you played that you’re going to feel right at home. If you’re new to the Assassin’s Creed Series, its best you go though the tutorial & get used to the controls, they are diverse and proper use of them is crucial to enjoying the game. It's also a good idea to do the tutorial even if your an Assassin's Creed Pro, just to become acquainted with the ways the controls have transferred down from the PS3. The silent kills and pretty much everything is relatively the same, they have used some fine ingenuity to use the available buttons on the PSP to capture the right feel, and of course not all moves have been brought over, but everything that’s needed is there. Mostly the secondary controls are dropped, but that doesn’t cut the experience.
Whats also surprising is how well the controls flow. The original game had a fluidity of movements that has been brought very nicely to the PSP system.
Gameplay 9/10
If you played the original Assassin’s Creed then you will feel like this is an extension of it. You’re Missions and Assassination’s are mostly the same as in the Original. All the signature moves from the Original are translated to the PSP edition and done very well.
We still use Safe houses to communicate with our ground level associates in each area.
Although the variety of Missions is not as great, they feel more diverse and story integrated, as opposed to being a repetitive approach to all Levels. As in the original every level (Assassination Mission) was repetitive, Pick pocket, eaves drop, informant, etc, get a feather, Assassination. With some additions as well, like assassinating a moving target before they get away. Keep in mind the Missions are shorter, and it takes ALLOT less effort to elude pursuers, this is understandable for the game being on a Mobile Gaming System,
The addition of side missions that don’t always appear to be crucial to the game progress, give the game depth and keep you busy.
The 3d engine feels stable with only a few signs of frame errors (something flashing, and wall going invisible or distorted for a millisecond) For the most part it feels solid.
The Animus
The Animus is Back, and looks the same; however you don’t get out of it. It appears there is no continuation of the “In the Future” Story Line from the original. This is done in The Assassin’s Creed II release, where Bloodlines bridges the gab between the 2. The Animus is used to go though the memory blocks selecting what block to replay, or simply continuing with the Story.
Templar Coins
Instead of flags like the Original we have coins to find. Hidden on tops of buildings, in alley coves, etc your find Silver and Gold Coins, collecting all of them for each city, will award you unlockables, that one you’re going to have to unlock to find outCompleting Missions & Assassinations earns you Templar Coins, mostly bronze coins. Bronze Silver & Gold coins all have different values, Gold obviously being the most valuable.
Upgrades
Templar Coins can then be spent on upgrades. Upgraded include things like increasing your attack power, improved defense abilities, better weapons and many more upgrades, It’s a nice way to give the game a little depth as this is a new feature and wasn’t available in the original Assassin’s Creed.
2 Way transferable In-game extras with the Playstation 3’s Assassins Creed 2
Ubisoft has mentioned that the game will have in-game extras that are transferable both ways between the PS3 & PSP system. While I haven't been able to explore this yet, when I get Assassin’s Creed 2 ,I will return to give more details on the matter.
Menus & Sounds 8/10
The Animus is back as previously mentioned, and looks the same as it did in the Original Game. The maps are smaller however they still have the same feel as the original. Clear and easy to read, the Pause Map fixed while the on screen map rotates, getting your bearings is not a problem. The sounds are also right out of the original, & sound great on PC speakers or headphones.
Overall opinion 9.5/10
I’m loving it, I was a fan of the original, and I had high expectations for the PSP edition, they defiantly came through, although the game is rather short, it has enough to keep you busy, and will give you your Assassin’s Creed Fix on the go. Keeping in mind the game is launched side by side with Assassin’s Creed 2 for the Big Boy Consoles. Assassin’s Creed 2 has defiantly brought the Series to new levels, Bloodlines has brought it to the PSP.
Rac3rX's Game Rating: 9.2/10
